I like this format for human names:
G Y—M
Where:
- G is a given name.
- Y is a Y-Chromosomal Name, which is inherited from the father.
- M is a Mitochondrial Name, which is inherited from the mother.
This makes it easy to trace Y chromosomes and mitochondria, which are passed on directly from father to son and from mother to child, respectively. Optionally, girls could drop the Y-chromosomal name, since they do not inherit Y chromosomes.
